SOX compliance - an opportunity for purchasing

Hans Ahlinder
Hans Ahlinder, CEO of IBX Group
When the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) was signed into the American law in 2002, it changed the face of American business. At first it grabbed the attention of finance and accounting, but now the focus is on nearly every part of a global business; from human resource to IT and Supply Chain. But why has a law, passed to manage and reflect the fall-out from the great American financial scandals of the nineties, taken the lead in corporate governance globally?

IBX CEO Hans Ahlinder sees this as a great opportunity for purchasing, it’s an opportunity that can generate substantial value through process automation as well as through cost savings achieved by exposing corporate agreements.

IBX expands in the construction industry

NCC, the European construction company, has signed a five-year agreement with IBX. The agreement, which contain IBX e-sourcing solutions including training and implementation, is part of NCC’s efforts to increase the efficiency of its global strategic sourcing process.

“We are looking to further improve our sourcing process and we expect IBX’s solutions to render significant cost-savings in the long run”, says Jan Svensson, CEO of NCC Purchasing Group AB

Skanska - Building better procurement

For the construction industry, the message is loud and clear. While other industries have continuously reduced prices for products and services while maintaining margins, the construction industry has been increasing prices without any corresponding improvement in profitability. Having discovered significant opportunities for cost reduction, Skanska launched a major supply management initiative in 2004.

"Our vision as a company is to become a leader and role model in the construction industry and it goes without saying that this vision must also apply to purchasing if we are to succeed", says Håkan Stenström, senior VP of purchasing at Skanska in Sweden.

Success with eAuctions at Krombacher

Krombacher In the past, Krombacher Brewery's purchasing department had made several attempts at effectively utilising online auctions. Success, however, was somewhat limited. Yet with their new e-Auction initiative Krombacher met their sourcing goals.

"As a result of the auction we were able to break up the price structure and establish a real market price", says Marco Doninger the RFP-projects chief buyer.

Getting users to buy in on e-procurement

Sooner or later the challenge will come: transform your purchasing organization and demonstrate your ability to create more value. Historically, many organizations have tried to launch e-procurement initiatives and failed. Low motivation, system complexity and slow uptake have hindered usage. The first lesson learnt is that any e-procurement initiative needs complete support from the management team.

In the enclosed pdf, from Efficient Purchasing Magazine number 3, you can learn how to best implement an e-procurement solution.

Succeed with change management

Nothing is as constant as change. This applies to individuals as well as governments, and naturally, to public corporations. Yet changes can become problematic when they are implemented within an organization. Recent studies show that many change management programs fail, but there are ways on avoiding the traps.
